Imrie urges fans to get behind struggling Hamilton

By Ronnie Esplin, | 4d
Accies are just two points above bottom club St Mirren in the Premiership.

Captain Dougie Imrie called for Hamilton fans to get behind the team ahead of the daunting trip to Ladbrokes Premiership leaders Celtic on Saturday.

Discontent around the struggling Lanarkshire club failed to subside with the 3-0 home defeat to Aberdeen on Wednesday night, which left Accies just two points above bottom side St Mirren and one above 11th placed Dundee.

Martin Canning's side are eight games without a win – seven in the league – and face a formidable task against the Hoops, whose 4-0 thrashing of St Mirren on Wednesday night took them one point clear of Kilmarnock at the top of the table with a game in hand."

"I feel the fans' frustration," said 35-year-old midfielder Imrie. "They pay their money to come and watch.

"Obviously we know ourselves it's not good enough and they're right to show their frustration. All we can say to them is try to stick with us.

"We know it's difficult, we know what they're seeing is not good enough.

"If we take our chances things could be different, but at the moment we're not and at the other end we're not doing our job properly and losing games that way.

"When we miss these chances, just get right behind us. When we miss a chance or concede everything just seems to be negative and everyone is against us. But, like I say, we have to stick as one, fans, players, everyone together and try to pull us away from where we are.

"We've done it before and we can do it again. It's difficult but you have to stick together and try to find something from somewhere to pick up wins.

"We've done it in the past, that's why we've been in the league for the last five years, and we have to find it again."
