Chelsea are reportedly interested in handing a new long-term contract to goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

When the Senegal international was signed from Rennes in September 2020, he was regarded as relatively unproven despite being brought in as an alternative to Kepa Arrizabalaga.

However, Mendy has proven to be one of Chelsea's best value-for-money additions in recent years with the club going on to win the Champions League during his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.

During that season, Mendy kept nine clean sheets in European football's premier competition, the last of those coming in the final as Chelsea edged out Manchester City by a 1-0 scoreline.

The 30-year-old remains tied to the West Londoners until 2025, keeping Chelsea in a strong position with regards to his future.

Nevertheless, according to the Daily Mail, club officials recognise that their first-choice stopper is worthy of an increase in wages.

As it stands, Mendy is currently one of the lowest earners in the senior group at a time when new signing Raheem Sterling has reportedly been made the club's highest-earning player.

Chairman and interim sporting director Todd Boehly is also said to be keen to hand fresh terms to the likes of Reece James and Mason Mount.

As it stands, however, the report says that Chelsea are yet to get anywhere near to the demands of Mendy and his representatives.

Mendy has made a total of 94 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, the latest of those coming in the 1-0 win at Everton on Saturday evening.

The alleged developments comes at a time when Chelsea are open to parting ways with Mendy's understudy Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Napoli are interested in signing the Spain international, who is eager to take on more first-team football in a bid to represent his homeland at the World Cup.

Chelsea recently announced that they had agreed a deal for American prospect Gabriel Slonina but the Chicago Fire stopper will not arrive at the club until January.
