Thomas Tuchel has signed a new three-year contract extension with Chelsea after leading the club to Champions League glory.

The 47-year-old only took over from Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge in January and was initially handed an 18-month contract, with the option of an extra year on top of that.

However, Tuchel has since enjoyed huge success with Chelsea, leading them to only their second-ever Champions League triumph with victory over Manchester City in the final last month.

Tuchel also steered the Blues to a top-four finish in the Premier League, as well as the FA Cup final, which they lost to Leicester City.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss has now put pen to paper on a new three-year deal which will keep him in West London until 2024.

"I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family," the German told the club's official website.

"There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation."

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: "When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe. He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.

"Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea.

"We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons."

Tuchel has won 19, drawn six and lost five of his 30 games in charge of Chelsea, with the Blues conceding just 16 goals in that time. body check tags ::
