Brentford boss Thomas Frank plays down Aston Villa rumours

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has suggested that he intends to reject any advances from Aston Villa.

After a 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Thursday evening, the Villa hierarchy made the decision to remove Steven Gerrard from his position in the dugout.

The West Midlands outfit have naturally been linked with a wide array of high-profile names, including former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino and Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim.

However, Frank is another candidate who has allegedly been identified with the powers-that-be said to be admirers of the Dane.

Coincidentally, the two teams are due to lock horns on Sunday in what is regarded as a key fixture for both sides as they bid to improve their respective positions.

Despite attending Villa Park on Sunday, Frank has given every indication that he will not be remaining at the ground past the full-time whistle.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Frank said: "I understand the bookmakers I'm a good manager. Joking aside, very happy here.

"I've said that many times. I have unfinished business to do here at Brentford. I think it's also (important) to worship the good you have."

Villa are no strangers to conducting business with their Brentford counterparts with former boss Dean Smith, defender Ezri Konsa and forward Ollie Watkins all being brought in from the West London outfit.

Since being promoted from assistant to head coach in 2018, Frank has taken charge of 203 matches in all competitions, recording a total of 92 wins and 64 defeats.

As well as winning the Championship playoffs in 2021, Frank guided the Bees to a 13th-placed finish in their first-ever Premier League campaign in 2021-22.

Brentford currently sit in 10th position in the top flight, five points and seven places ahead of Villa. body check tags ::
