Netflix has announced details of a new competitive reality series based on Squid Game.
Called Squid Game: The Challenge, the show will feature challenges inspired by the dark drama - although contestants who are eliminated will merely miss out on the $4.56m prize pot rather than being killed.
That prize fund is the largest of its kind in reality TV history, while the competition will also feature the largest number of contestants in reality TV history - 456, as in the main show.
"Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang's captivating story and iconic imagery," said Brandon Riegg, vp of unscripted at Netflix.
"We're grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment.
"Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end."
Casting for contestants is now underway at squidgamecasting.com.
