The 26-year-old won legions of fans and gained heartthrob status for his turn as brooding Connell Waldron in the Ireland-set drama, which was released in 2020.

Irish group Filmmakers supporting Filmmakers has organised an auction of items from the series in order to raise funds for those in the industry who have been adversely affected by Russia's invasion into eastern Europe.

Among the items up for grabs is a pair of blue and yellow rugby shorts worn by Connell - and signed by Mescal himself - which has a current bid of €500 (£430).

The auction also includes a book of the scripts signed by director Lenny Abrahamson and an actual show script signed by Mescal, Abrahamson and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
