Result: Angelique Kerber advances to Wimbledon final

Angelique Kerber books her spot in the 2018 Wimbledon women's final courtesy of a 6-3 6-3 win over Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko.

Angelique Kerber has booked her spot in the 2018 Wimbledon women's final courtesy of a 6-3 6-3 win over Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the first semi-final on Thursday afternoon.

Kerber, who lost to Serena Williams in the 2016 Wimbledon final, will now take on either Williams or Julia Goerges in the final of the competition on Saturday.

The first set remained on serve until Kerber secured a vital break at 3-3, before Ostapenko lost another service game at 3-5 to hand her German opponent the first set in the English capital.

It did not take long for Kerber to take charge of the second set, meanwhile, as she broke Ostapenko's first service game between two holds to race into a 3-0 lead.

Ostapenko did break back at 5-1 down to give herself some hope of a comeback, but Kerber served it out at 5-3 to breeze into the final after just one hour and nine minutes of tennis in London.
