For a second consecutive occasion, Taylor Fritz and Alejandro Tabilo will meet at the Indian Wells Masters, this time in the round of 32 on Monday.
Over the weekend, the third-seeded American at this tournament took care of Matteo Gigante 6-3 7-5, while Tabilo got past Dusan Lajovic 6-3 7-5.
Match preview
The quest to claim the Indian Wells singles crown for a second time began well for Fritz, who advanced into the round of 32 for a fifth successive occasion.
The American had his service game working throughout that match, hitting five aces, while also winning 91% of his first serves overall.
He has not lost a third-round match in this event since 2017, though he did suffer a round of 32 defeat earlier this year against Gael Monfils at the Australian Open in January.
Since then, he has made it to at least the last 16 or further in his previous two singles tournaments played on the hard court, losing in the quarter-finals of the Delray Beach Open last month versus Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
For the year, Fritz has won 79% of his first serve points on the hard court, saved 61% of his break points and won 72% of his service points on that surface.
Fritz has been extremely sharp when on serve in 2025, with 132 aces on the hard court with a mere 18 double faults heading into this tournament.
Speaking of strong serves, they helped propel Alejandro Tabilo into the next phase of this competition, with the Chilean hitting six aces on Saturday.
Tabilo also won 73% of his first serves and 68% of his second ones while converting two of his four break point opportunities to advance into the next round.
On Monday, he can move into the round of 16 of this tournament for only the second time ever, with his only previous appearance being in 2023.
To this stage of the year, Tabilo has not won more than one singles match at a tournament on tour, losing his second encounter of the Santiago Open last month to Federico Coria.
This year, on hard court surfaces, the Chilean has been able to save 70% of break points faced while winning 74% of his first serve ones as well.
On the other side, he has not been quite as sharp, converting just 26% of his break points on hard courts in 2025 before this tournament and winning only 12% of his return games overall.

Head To Head
Wimbledon (2024) - Third Round: Fritz wins 7-6 6-3 7-5
Indian Wells Masters (2024) - Second Round: Fritz wins 7-6 6-2
US Men's Clay Court Championship (2022) - Second Round: Fritz wins 6-1 6-4
In the first meeting between these two a few years ago, Fritz won 73% of his first serves while also winning five of his six break-point opportunities, helping him claim victory.
When they met at the Indian Wells Open last year, the American was unstoppable on serve, hitting 14 aces, while Tabilo did not have a single break point opportunity.
At the All-England Club in 2024, Fritz won 92% of his first serves, had 20 aces and just one double fault to advance comfortably once again.
We say: Fritz to win in two sets
Fritz has far too much power on his serve, while his forehand has been a nightmare for the Chilean to contain in past meetings against him, and the American seems to have only got better since these two previously met.
