South Africa's Chad le Clos has retained his title in the 100m butterfly at the Commonwealth Games, seeing off a challenge from England's James Guy.

The 25-year-old had already collected top honours in the 50m and 200m distances of the stroke prior to tonight's final and duly led the race from start to finish, setting a new Games record of 50.65 seconds as he claimed his victory.

Guy, who already had four medals to his name at these Games prior to the race, took the silver with a time of 51.31 seconds.

Australian duo Grant Irvine and David Morgan were left to scrap it out for bronze, the former's time of 51.50 seconds enough to see him earn his first medal of the Games.

Young England swimmer Jacob Peters was also in contention and finished a respectable joint fifth with a time of 53.11 seconds.

Calum Jarvis of Wales came seventh on 53.36 seconds, while Scotland's Sean Campsie brought up the rear with 53.51 seconds.
