Nick Dunlap has recorded a one-shot victory to lift The American Express trophy, becoming the first amateur in 33 years to win a PGA Tour title.
A sensational round of 60 on Saturday catapulted Dunlap to the top of the leaderboard heading into the final day, putting him within touching distance of matching a feat last achieved by Phil Mickelson in 1991.
The 20-year-old hit a double-bogey on the seventh, bringing him back into the pack heading into the back nine and vulnerable to being outclassed by a range of vastly more experienced players.
Instead, it was the youngster who held his nerve, posting birdies on holes 14 and 16 before recording what felt like an unlikely par after a wayward tee shot.
Dunlap eventually left himself a six-foot putt for victory and successfully holed out to secure his PGA Tour Card for the next two years, albeit being ineligible to collect the $1.5m winners' cheque.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout was the player to miss out, with the South African having eagled the 15th and birdied 18 to hold the clubhouse lead until Dunlap's cool finish.
Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Kevin Yu all shared third position, with Sam Burns, Adam Hadwin and Michael Kim two shots further back in a tie for sixth.
World number one Scottie Scheffler recorded a final-round 65 to end the tournament in 17th place. body check tags ::
