While Lando Norris hints at his future ambitions elsewhere, teammate Oscar Piastri has solidified his commitment to McLaren for several more years.
During a pre-season chat with NBC, the 2024 drivers' title runner-up and potential 2025 favourite, Norris, was quizzed about his long-term plans in Formula 1.
"I can't answer that one," he said with a smile. "I know exactly which team I would love to go to - it's the team that everyone wants to be part of at some point in their career. But I'm very happy with McLaren."
Just over a year ago, Norris signed a multi-year extension to his contract, which was already set to run until at least the end of 2025.
Yet it's evident he might one day trade orange for red, following in Lewis Hamilton's footsteps.
"It's a cool story for him to go to Ferrari," Norris said of his fellow Briton's shift from Mercedes' UK base to Maranello.
"A lot of people said maybe it's not the right thing to do and so forth. But I would probably do the same if I was in his position."
For Piastri, managed by Mark Webber, thoughts of Ferrari seem distant, as the Australian inked a contract extension on the eve of his home race in Melbourne.
The 23-year-old was already tied to the Woking outfit until the end of 2026, suggesting his new agreement likely stretches beyond Norris' current deal.
McLaren's official statement noted that Piastri will remain with the team for "many years to come".
Despite this, Piastri lagged behind Norris in 2024, and Red Bull adviser Dr Helmut Marko believes the Australian will struggle to close the gap this season. "It is clear that he (Norris) looked a lot better than Piastri in Bahrain," he said after pre-season testing. body check tags ::
