Middlesbrough loan Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Danny Batth

Middlesbrough win the race to secure the season-long loan signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Danny Batth.

Middlesbrough have won the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Danny Batth on a season-long loan deal.

Batth has come through the academy setup at Molineux to make over 200 appearances for the first team, but the centre-back has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves are stacked with options in the centre of defence, and it has enabled Middlesbrough to step in and sign the 27-year-old for the remainder of the campaign.

According to the Express & Star, Boro do not have the option to sign Batth on a permanent deal next summer.

Batth - who had also been interesting Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday - will now compete with Daniel Ayala, Aden Flint and Dael Fry for a starting role at the Riverside Stadium.
