Manuel Pellegrini hints at more West Ham United transfer activity

Manuel Pellegrini is confident that West Ham United will sign more players over the summer amid injury blows to Andy Carroll and Winston Reid.

Manuel Pellegrini has suggested that West Ham United will be looking to sign more players over the summer amid injury blows to Andy Carroll and Winston Reid.

Striker Carroll and defender Reid both aggravated old injuries while at the club's pre-season training camp in Switzerland, and the two players are expected to be out for up to three months.

West Ham have been active in the transfer market during the off-season, signing eight players including the club-record £36m acquisition of midfielder Felipe Anderson from Lazio and the free transfer of England international Jack Wilshere.

However, Pellegrini claimed that more new recruits could be on the horizon following the injuries to Carroll and Reid.

"We are obviously very sad to hear that Andy and Winston have suffered setbacks," the Chilean told football.london. "This is a big blow for them and us, but we hope to see them back in action as soon as possible.

"It does mean that we have lost two senior players in key areas, though, and we'll continue to work hard with the owners to make further additions to strengthen the playing squad, beyond the five new signings already confirmed."

West Ham begin their Premier League season on August 11 with a trip to Liverpool.
