Alan Pardew: 'I picked the wrong team against Manchester United'

Alan Pardew acknowledges that he picked "the wrong team" as West Bromwich Albion fell to a 2-1 Premier League defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Sunday.

Alan Pardew has taken full responsibility for picking "the wrong team" as West Bromwich Albion fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Sunday.

First-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard set the Red Devils on their way to victory, with Gareth Barry's strike on 77 minutes proving a mere consolation.

Pardew made just one change from the side that battled to a goalless draw at Liverpool in midweek, and the Baggies boss admitted that he should have put more fresh legs on the pitch.

"I think I picked the wrong team," Pardew told reporters. "The team that lacked energy and that's my fault, I take full responsibility, I should have put some fresh legs in there.

"The boys gave me so much at Liverpool. Obviously I'm getting to know them but I didn't think we had that energy in the first half that we need against Man United.

"It was too comfortable for them, we couldn't get any pressure on them. It was quiet (at The Hawthorns) because we're giving them nothing to get excited about."

The result keeps West Brom two points from safety and extends their winless run to 17 games in all competitions.
