Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips will reportedly be in London on Wednesday to undergo a medical with West Ham United ahead of a loan move to the London Stadium.

There has been a host of speculation surrounding the England international's future in recent weeks, with Man City head coach Pep Guardiola giving the midfielder the green light to leave this month.

A number of clubs, including Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, have been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old.

However, West Ham have emerged as the favourites this week, and it is understood that the Hammers have now come to an agreement with the Citizens over a loan deal.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Phillips will be in London on Wednesday to undergo his medical examinations ahead of a switch to David Moyes's side.

Romano claims that a deal is expected to be announced on Thursday, with Phillips moving to the capital side on loan for the second half of the campaign, but a buy option clause is also likely to be included.

Phillips made 234 appearances for Leeds United before making the move to Man City, but he has struggled during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

The Englishman has been restricted to just 31 appearances over the last two seasons, with only 16 of those outings coming in England's top flight.

Phillips has only played 89 minutes of Premier League football this term, and he needs regular action in the second half of the campaign to secure a spot in the Three Lions squad for the European Championship.

The midfielder last played in the Premier League at the start of November, featuring for the final 19 minutes of what proved to be a 6-1 victory over Bournemouth.

Phillips has actually played the same number of times in the Premier League and Champions League (both four) this season, and his only goal of the campaign came in the European Cup against Red Star Belgrade.

The former Leeds youngster could potentially line up alongside James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez in the West Ham midfield, with his debut possibly coming against Bournemouth on February 1.

The Hammers, who are currently sixth in the Premier League table, will follow the Bournemouth clash with a trip to Manchester United on February 4 before welcoming Arsenal in their next game on February 11. body check tags ::
