Erik Lamela hopeful injuries are behind him after penning new contract

Erik Lamela admits that it was "difficult" missing the vast majority of 2016-17 through injury, but he is determined to stay away from the treatment room next season.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela has said that he is hopeful of remaining injury-free next season after committing his future to the club.

The Argentina international agreed terms on a new four-year deal on Friday afternoon, taking him to just short of a decade in North London if he sees it through.

Lamela featured 25 times for the Lilywhites last term after missing the majority of 2016-17 through injury, and the 26-year-old is remaining positive that he can stay away from the treatment room for good.

"It's difficult to be injured, especially for a long time, but I never gave up. Everything is in the past now," he told the club's official website. "To be strong mentally helped me a lot and now I'm ready to play and to enjoy.

"I'm training hard every day to be ready for the first game. Hopefully I stay like this, injury-free, for the whole season. I'm very confident this season will be good for me and for the team as well.

"I want to be scoring goals, playing well, fighting for the team, everything I can do I will do. I'm sure the team will be good next season."

Tottenham have also awarded South Korean forward Son Heung-min a deal that runs through until 2023.
