Gareth Bale: 'Wales winning China Cup would be massive'

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale describes the prospect of winning his first trophy with Wales as "massive" as the Dragons prepare to face Uruguay in the China Cup final.

Gareth Bale has described the prospect of winning his first trophy with Wales as "massive".

The Dragons will play Uruguay in Monday's China Cup final after thrashing China 6-0 on Thursday.

Bale, who scored a hat-trick in that game to become Wales's all-time leading goalscorer, thinks that winning a trophy with his nation would be even more significant than at club level.

"To win any trophy is always good, but for your country it is that bit more special," the Real Madrid forward told BBC Sport.

"It would be massive. You have it in your heart, in your blood, you want to make your whole country proud. So whether it's a tournament like we are in now, or whether it's a Euros or the World Cup, it's always important to win trophies.

"It will be very high up in the ranking I suppose but we still have a lot of work to do, a big game to come and as we said before it's going to be a challenge... but we believe if we play well we can win the tournament. Yes, it would be great to have some more success with Wales and we will try to enjoy it as best we can."

As well as being Bale's first international trophy, the China Cup would also be the first competition that Wales have won outright since the British Home Championship in 1937.
