Real Madrid travelled to Leganes on Wednesday night knowing that a win would see them return to the top of La Liga.
Los Blancos raced into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 23 minutes of action, but Leganes struck back through Gabriel and Luciano Neves to give themselves hope of turning things around in the second period.
An own-goal from Martin Mantovani made it 4-2 Real Madrid early in the second period, however, and that was how it finished on the night as the Madrid giants returned to the summit.

The gap is now one point, although Real Madrid have two games in hand ahead of this match. The destiny of the title is still very much in the hands of the Madrid giants.
8.27pmAs for Leganes, the Madrid side remain 17th in the table on 27 points. They are currently five points clear of 18th-place Sporting Gijon, and will enter this match on the back of a four-game unbeaten run.
