Newcastle United contact West Bromwich Albion over Solomon Rondon transfer?

Newcastle United are reportedly unable to buy out Salomon Rondon's £16m contract and are hoping to reach an agreement on a lower fee with West Bromwich Albion.

Newcastle United have reportedly been in contact with West Bromwich Albion regarding the availability of striker Salomon Rondon.

The Magpies are desperate to continue strengthening in all areas of the field ahead of the new season, particularly in the striking department.

Rafael Benitez has already brought in winger Kenedy on loan from Chelsea, free agent central midfielder Ki Sung-yueng and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Sparta Prague.

Finances are once again proving to be problematic for Benitez, however, and Sky Sports News reports that United are unable to meet the £16m release clause in Rondon's contract.

Talks are therefore underway between Newcastle and West Brom, with the North-East outfit hopeful of reaching an agreement on a lower fee.

Newcastle may raise further funds through the sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham, although the striker's £18m valuation is proving problematic.
