Newcastle United consider bid for Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico?

Newcastle United are reportedly considering an approach for Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, who has just represented Argentina at the World Cup.

Newcastle United have reportedly identified Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico as a possible summer signing.

The Magpies are operating on a tight transfer budget ahead of the new campaign, but the Premier League side have just received a large fee for the sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham.

Manager Rafael Benitez is likely to be able to use those funds over the next 10 days, and according to The Chronicle, Tagliafico is on the Spaniard's radar.

Tagliafico only linked up with Ajax during the January transfer window, meaning that Newcastle would likely have to pay in the region of £8m for the Argentina international.

The report suggests that the North-East outfit may prioritise other areas of the team over shelling out big money for the 25-year-old.
