Jamaal Lascelles focused on Newcastle United amid alleged West Ham United interest

Jamaal Lascelles states that he is fully focused on playing for Newcastle United next season amid alleged interest from West Ham United.

Jamaal Lascelles has stressed that wants to concentrate on playing for Newcastle United next season despite alleged interest from West Ham United.

The 24-year-old defender, who signed for the Magpies in 2014, made 33 Premier League appearances for the club last season, scoring three times and making a name for himself in the top flight.

Last week, Newcastle reportedly rejected a bid of £20m, rising to £25m, from West Ham for their captain.

However, Lascelles has stated that he remains focused on the Tyneside club and is not paying attention to purported interest from other clubs.

"I'm happy here," the former England Under-21 international told BBC Sport. "I'm the captain, the fans love me, I love the fans, I'm playing week in, week out.

"That's where I'm at right now, and my main focus is getting fit, doing the pre-season games, and the Tottenham game [first Newcastle game of the Premier League season].

"Nothing changes. The speculation might not even be true. Since I was a kid, there's always been teams interested, speculation, paper talk and stuff on Twitter, and things like that. It doesn't mean anything to me."

As well as West Ham, Everton have also been linked with a move for Lascelles.
