Moutinho praises battling Wolves but also sees room for improvement

Wolves sit seventh in the Premier League after a 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Joao Moutinho admits Wolves cannot keep relying on last-gasp heroics but praised their fighting spirit.

Willy Boly's header earned a 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Monday and was the sixth goal Wolves have scored in stoppage time in all competitions this season.

Newcastle were unhappy it was given after they wanted a foul on goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

But the goal, which was also the 14th time Wolves have netted after 80 minutes this term, stood to cancel out  Isaac Hayden's second-half opener as the spoils were shared at Molineux.

Portugal international Moutinho told the club's official site: "We fight until the end, we fight until the ref's whistle. I think we created opportunities to score one, two or three goals, but it didn't happen.

"We continued to try it in the last minute because we try it all game and we deserved that draw, but we need to continue to work, and improve, and win our games.

"It was a dramatic end, but we deserve a point because we played a good match, we controlled the game and we created opportunities.

"They scored in the second half when we made a mistake and after that they defended very well, but we tried everything to score and got it in the last minute.

"Newcastle are a good team. They do their job and they played well, but I think we played well, we created opportunities to score."

Boly challenged Dubravka for Adama Traore's looping cross, knocking the goalkeeper off balance to leave Newcastle upset.

Moutinho added: "I saw a goal. The ref didn't whistle, but the most important thing is that we fought until the end and we did everything we could to score. We deserved this draw."Wolves' Willy Boly heads in the late equaliser against Newcastle.

The draw left the Magpies just a point above the Premier League relegation zone but after scoring his first goal since October 2017 Hayden refused to blame Dubravka.

"It's difficult to put into words. I don't know whether it's a foul or not, it looked a foul from the bench," he told the club website.

"It's just another bit of bad luck on our part. We deserved the three points but it wasn't meant to be. We all have to take responsibility.

"Everyone has made mistakes throughout the season but we just have to stick together and get as many points as we can."
