Fabian Delph, Phil Jones withdraw from England squad

England duo Fabian Delph and Phil Jones pull out of the squad through injury, while Harry Winks has reportedly been called up as a replacement.

Fabian Delph and Phil Jones have withdrawn from the England squad for this week's World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania.

The pair both sat out training on Monday morning after complaining of minor knocks and have now returned to club sides Manchester City and Manchester United respectively.

It is a big blow for Delph, who has impressed in recent weeks for league leaders City when used at the back and was in line to make his first Three Lions appearance since November 2015.

According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has been promoted from the Under-21s squad as a replacement.

Jones is another player who will play no part against either Slovenia at Wembley on Thursday or Lithuania in Vilnius three days later, with a muscle strain ruling him out for the duration of the international break.
