Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wanted Manchester United to sell nine of his first-team squad during the last transfer window.

After witnessing his side record just nine points from their first eight Premier League fixtures, Solskjaer is under pressure to keep his job at Old Trafford.

The form has followed a summer which saw United make three high-profile additions, while seeing five players leave the North-West giants.

However, according to BBC Sport, Solskjaer had been keen to sell as many as nine of last season's squad before the start of this campaign.

The report claims that the Norwegian made it known to chief executive Ed Woodward that the club would benefit from having an overhaul after last season's sixth-place finish in the top flight.

Solskjaer may have to win one of his next two league matches - against Liverpool and Norwich City respectively - to keep his role in the dugout.
