Porto will reportedly refuse to sell Samu Aghehowa for under €80m (£67m) during this summer's transfer window, but it is entirely possible that the club will hold out for his full €100m (£84m) release clause.

The 20-year-old made the move to Porto from Atletico Madrid during last summer's transfer window.

Samu has been in excellent form for his Portuguese club during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 20 goals and registering three addicts in 33 appearances, including 14 goals and three assists in 21 league outings.

The Spain international penned a five-year contract with Porto upon his arrival last summer, but there has recently been huge speculation surrounding his future due to his performances in Portugal.

Barcelona are said to view Samu as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, while Arsenal and Chelsea have also been heavily linked with the forward.

Porto 'could ask for £84m for the in-demand Samu'

According to Fichajes, Porto will not listen to offers of under €80m (£67m) for the forward, but the club may ultimately point to his release clause of €100m (£84m) if they are contacted this summer.

The report claims that Samu is keen to make the move to the Premier League, having come close to joining Chelsea last summer, only for a switch to the Blues from Atletico to break down at the final moment.

Samu started his professional career at Granada before moving to Atletico in 2023, but he failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Red and Whites, spending the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Alaves, scoring eight times in 35 appearances.

Chelsea were widely expected to sign Atletico last summer, but the London club could not get a deal over the line, and Porto benefitted, with the Portuguese club signing him in the latter stages of the market.

Which club will win the race for Samu?

Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker this summer, while Chelsea are also hopeful of bringing in a player in that area of the field, so the London pair could battle for his services.

Manchester United have also previously been credited with an interest, and it is not impossible to imagine the Red Devils being in the mix for him, especially if the club can win the Europa League to secure Champions League football for next term.

However, Barcelona will be difficult to ignore, with the Catalan giants looking for a long-term Lewandowski replacement.

The chance to operate alongside Raphinha and Lamine Yamal in the final third of the field would surely be appealing to Samu, and the striker may feel that he has unfinished business in Spain, with Atletico not giving him the chance to make his mark. body check tags ::
