Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly ready to rival Manchester City for the signature of Atalanta BC midfielder Ederson during this summer's transfer window.

The 25-year-old's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with a number of clubs believed to be interested in signing him at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Ederson has scored four goals and registered two assists in 39 appearances for Atalanta this season, including three goals and two assists in 27 Serie A outings, with La Dea third in Italy's top flight, three points behind leaders Inter Milan.

Man City are believed to be keen to secure his signature this summer, but according to CaughtOffside, Man United and Liverpool are in the hunt, with the pair also determined to bring him to the Premier League.

The report claims that the two English powerhouses have been in touch with Ederson's camp to determine the cost of a deal.

Man United, Liverpool 'make contact over Ederson move'

Atalanta have allegedly signalled that they would want at least €60m (£50m) for the Brazilian, who has made 129 appearances for his current side since arriving from Salernitana in the summer of 2022, scoring 12 goals and registering four assists in the process.

Man United are set to bring in a new central midfielder this summer, with Christian Eriksen expected to leave on a free transfer, while Casemiro will also depart if the club receive a suitable offer for his services.

Liverpool are well-stocked in the middle of midfield, with Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo options for head coach Arne Slot, but it is understood that the Reds also want to make a signing in that position.

Which club will win the race for Ederson?

Liverpool will once again have Champions League football to offer potential new signings next season, but Man City's spot in next season's European competition is far from certain.

Indeed, the Citizens are fourth in the Premier League table, only three points clear of sixth-placed Newcastle United, so there is work to be done to ensure that the reigning English champions are in the European Cup next term.

Man United, meanwhile, need to win this season's Europa League to secure Champions League qualification, as the Red Devils are currently down in 14th spot in England's top flight.

Ruben Amorim's side would surely need to be in the Champions League to stand a chance of signing Ederson, but even with top-level European action, the Red Devils could ultimately miss out to either Liverpool or Man City. body check tags ::
