Manchester United are reportedly still interested in Frenkie de Jong, with the club continuing to monitor his situation at Barcelona.

The Red Devils spent much of last summer's transfer window pursuing the Netherlands international, but they were ultimately made to switch their interest, bringing in Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Man United have allegedly agreed a £60m deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount, with the Englishman set to move to Old Trafford on a five-year contract.

However, it is believed that two new central midfielders could arrive this summer, with Scott McTominay and Fred both being linked with exits.

De Jong continues to insist that he wants to remain at Barcelona, but the Catalan outfit's financial problems could yet lead to them letting the Dutchman depart in a big-money deal.

Bayern Munich are said to be admirers of the Dutchman, but according to 90min, Man United are also being kept informed of any developments surrounding the 26-year-old.

The report claims that the 20-time English champions would be ready to enter the mix if it became clear that Barcelona were willing to let him leave this summer.

Man United came to an agreement with the Catalan side last summer over a deal, but De Jong said on multiple occasions that he wanted to stay at Camp Nou.

The midfielder was a vital player for Xavi's side during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 43 occasions in all competitions, scoring twice and providing four assists in the process.

De Jong arrived at Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2019, and he has represented the Catalan outfit on 183 occasions, scoring 15 goals and registering 21 assists in the process.

Man United's plans for the summer window could soon be intensified, with a takeover thought to be close.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is now allegedly firmly the favourite over Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and the Qatari banker is expected to make significant funds available if he becomes the new owner.

The Red Devils signed both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer to strengthen their midfield, but head coach Erik ten Hag is said to view the position as a priority in the current market.

The club are also in need of at least one striker this summer, while a new number one goalkeeper will arrive if David de Gea leaves on a free transfer at the end of the month.
