Manchester United midfielder Matty Willock joins St Mirren on season-long loan

Manchester United confirm that 21-year-old midfielder Matty Willock has joined Scottish Premiership club St Mirren on a season-long loan.

Manchester United midfielder Matty Willock has joined Scottish Premiership club St Mirren on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at St Johnstone, making 12 appearances.

Willock has come through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and previously had a loan spell with Dutch club Utrecht.

"I'm really delighted," the Englishman told the official St Mirren website. "I spoke to the gaffer and he really sold me on the way he wants the team to progress this season.

"I know what I am coming into. I know the tempo of the game is really quick so hopefully my experience last season stands me in good stead.

"I'm a midfielder, I work hard, I try and drive forward with the ball and will hopefully chip in with some goals and assists."

St Mirren go into their final Scottish League Cup Group H tie at home to Dumbarton on Saturday one point behind Kilmarnock.
