Real Madrid are reportedly planning to move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo at the end of the season.
Mainoo's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with the 19-year-old believed to be unhappy with the contract offer that has been placed on the table by the English giants.
The England international is allegedly preparing to reject the chance to sign a new deal at Old Trafford in order to seek a move abroad, with the youngster keen to pursue other opportunities.
Chelsea have been linked with Mainoo, but it is highly unlikely that the Red Devils would be willing to sell the academy product to a Premier League rival, with a switch abroad at the end of the campaign much more likely.
According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are keen on the midfielder, viewing him as the ideal signing during this summer's transfer window.
The report claims that scouts from the European champions will monitor his form in the coming months, with Mainoo expected to return from an injury problem in the early stages of April.
Real Madrid 'interested in summer deal for Mainoo'
The teenager has made 60 appearances for Man United, scoring six goals and registering two assists, but it has been a frustrating 2024-25 campaign for the academy product.
Mainoo has only managed one goal and one assist in 25 appearances for the Red Devils this season, and he has been on the sidelines for the last month due to a muscular problem.
Man United's financial situation means that difficult decisions will have to be made this summer, and any sale of Mainoo would count as pure profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.
Losing a player of Mainoo's ilk would be difficult for the club's supporters to accept, but it would he more damaging if he made the switch to a Premier League rival, so selling to Real Madrid could be appealing for the 20-time English champions.
Would Mainoo be a good signing for Real Madrid?
Real Madrid are currently well-stocked in central midfield, but Luka Modric is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, while there is uncertainty surrounding the futures of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.
Both Tchouameni and Camavinga could allegedly leave this summer for the right price, with the duo having their problems this term, so it is likely that at least one central midfielder will arrive.
Man United are unlikely to entertain offers of less than £60m for Mainoo, though, so it would be a serious investment from Real Madrid, who want to build a team for the future.
Mainoo, who has a contract with Ruben Amorim's side until the summer of 2027, is an outstanding talent, and he could thrive at Bernabeu alongside England teammate Jude Bellingham.
However, it is difficult to imagine Real Madrid putting up the sort of money that would be required to sign him during this summer's transfer window. body check tags ::
