Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly determined to bring Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres to Old Trafford during this summer's transfer window.
Gyokeres has been in stunning form for Sporting during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 39 goals and registering nine assists in 40 appearances in all competitions, including 27 goals and five assists in 24 league fixtures.
There is currently a host of speculation surrounding the 26-year-old's future, with a number of clubs believed to be keen to secure his signature at the end of the campaign.
The release clause in Gyokeres's Sporting deal has been set at €100m (£84m), but it is believed that he could be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €71m (£60m) during the summer market.
According to Fichajes, Amorim is driving Man United's interest in the Sweden international, with the Portuguese determined to secure the striker's signature during this summer's transfer window.
Amorim 'pushing for Man United to sign Gyokeres'
Gyokeres thrived under Amorim at Sporting, and he has a staggering goal record for the Portuguese giants, netting 82 goals in 90 appearances, in addition to registering 24 assists.
The forward has previous experience of English football, turning out for Brighton & Hove Albion, Swansea City and Coventry City, notably representing the latter between 2021 and 2023.
Gyokeres scored 43 goals and registered 17 assists in 116 appearances for Coventry, but he has never played in the Premier League, with his eight appearances for Brighton coming in the cup competitions.
Man United will sign a new striker this summer, as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have both struggled to make their mark this season.
Zirkzee has recently been in relatively strong form, but neither the Dutchman nor Hojlund can be relied upon when it comes to being a 20-goal-a-season striker, which will lead to a new player arriving in that area this summer.
Man United have 'missed out' on Quenda signing to Chelsea
Amorim is believed to be even more determined to bring Gyokeres to Man United considering that the club have allegedly missed out on the signing of 17-year-old Sporting star Geovany Quenda, who is said to be heading to Chelsea.
Quenda, at one stage, looked destined to be joining Man United to become their first-choice right-sided wing-back.
However, it is understood that Chelsea have secured a deal for the Portuguese, who is set to remain on loan at Sporting for the 2025-26 campaign before moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2026.
Man United allegedly never went as far as submitting an official bid for Quenda, and the 20-time English champions have now missed out on a deal for one of the most talented youngsters in world football. body check tags ::
