Manchester United must work to convince Mauricio Pochettino that he is their number one choice to take over as manager, according to a report.

The Paris Saint-Germain boss has been heavily linked with the hotseat at Old Trafford, along with current Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.

With Ralf Rangnick only appointed on an interim basis until the end of the campaign, the club hierarchy are on the search for a long-term appointment to be in place ahead of the summer.

Following PSG's dramatic exit from the Champions League following a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday, fresh doubts of Pochettino's future in Paris have surfaced.

Were the former Tottenham Hotspur boss to face the sack from Les Parisiens, this would free up United to make a swift approach for the Argentine without the need for compensation, but the Daily Mail are reporting that Pochettino needs convincing.

The 50-year-old reportedly wishes to be reassured that he is at the top of the list of candidates for him to consider the role; ahead of the likes of Ten Hag.

Meanwhile, United host Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday looking to climb back into the top four, after the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City last weekend saw them drop to fifth. body check tags ::
