Rio Ferdinand: 'Alexis Sanchez could be finished at Manchester United'

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand suggests that Alexis Sanchez's career at Old Trafford could be over.

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has hinted that Alexis Sanchez's career at Old Trafford could be finished, having failed to impress since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December.

Solskjaer has overseen an incredible change at United over the last few months, but the Norwegian has been unable to alter the form of Sanchez, who has struggled badly since a 2018 move from Arsenal.

The 30-year-old has only managed one Premier League goal this season and is now facing "six to eight weeks" on the sidelines with the knee injury that he picked up against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Ferdinand has claimed that the fact Sanchez has "a lot of miles on the clock" could be causing a problem.

"There are a lot of miles on the clock. That's one big thing, he has played a lot of games at the top level There is no doubting he is a fantastic footballer, but at Man United, it just doesn't seem to be working at the moment," Ferdinand told Goal.com.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone into Man United and got some players working, got some players playing. [Victor] Lindelof looks a different player now. He is first on the team-sheet in that back four now. Pogba, the most influential players in the Premier League since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went there.

"Marcus Rashford looks like the player that everyone believed he could be for United, but Sanchez he hasn't been able to unlock that code yet, but you can't expect a manager to go in an unlock every code on every player. He's done what he can at the moment, but Sanchez is still searching for that form."

Sanchez has played close to 600 club matches at a professional level since beginning his career in 2005, while he has also made 124 appearances for the Chilean national team.
