Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has emulated club legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby following their 2-1 win over Rangers this evening.

Bruno Fernandes was the hero for the Red Devils, netting a 92nd-minute winner in front of the Stretford End, after their Scottish visitors thought they had snatched a late point.

A sublime Cyriel Dessers goal had pulled Philippe Clement's men level with just two minutes remaining of the 90, after a bizarre Jack Butland own goal had initially put the hosts ahead.

Fernandes's winner means that Man United head into their matchday eight trip to Bucharest to face FCSB inside the top eight, and on the verge of sealing a place in the last 16.

Amorim equals club legends with Rangers win

In beating Rangers, Amorim has now won his first three European games in charge of the club, becoming just the third manager in Manchester United history to achieve such a feat.

The Portuguese boss has joined Man United royalty in that regard, with Busby and Ferguson the only other managers to have done so.

After a tricky start to the Europa League campaign under Erik ten Hag, which included draws with Porto and Twente, Amorim has since catapulted the Red Devils from the elimination zone, to the top eight.

United have already come from behind to beat both Bodo/Glimt and Viktoria Plzen under Amorim's stewardship, and tonight's win has taken them onto 15 points from a possible 21 across the league phase.

FCSB present the final challenge to Man United at this stage, and they also have a lot to play for, sitting eighth following a 3-2 win away at Qarabag this evening.

Man United set new English record with late winner

It was not just Amorim who has made history tonight, because by scoring another injury-time winner, Man United have now moved out on their own among English clubs for the most winning goals scored after 90 minutes in European history.

Fernandes's strike tonight was the eighth time that United have won a European fixture in stoppage time, moving clear of both Arsenal and Chelsea, who have seven each.

Late goals have been commonplace across the Europa League campaign so far for United, with Harry Maguire netting an injury-time equaliser away to Porto on matchday two, after Fernandes had been sent off.

While not quite after the 90-minute mark, Rasmus Hojlund was also on hand to score a late winner away in Plzen on matchday six, notching on 88 minutes to hand his team what has proven to be a very important three points.
