Donny van de Beek has been left out of Manchester United's 25-man squad for the group stage of the 2023-24 Champions League, with the midfielder's future at the club still the subject of much speculation.

The Netherlands international did not leave Old Trafford ahead of Friday evening's deadline, but there remains a chance that he could depart over the next few days.

Teams from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are still able to sign players, and it is thought that Van de Beek's representatives have received contacts from clubs in those divisions over a possible transfer.

Van de Beek is yet to be included in a matchday squad for the 20-time English champions this season due to the speculation surrounding his future.

The Dutchman is not believed to be in Erik ten Hag's plans moving forward, and he is the biggest absentee from the squad that was named by Man United on Tuesday.

Man United will take on Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray in what is a fascinating group, with their section beginning away to the former on September 20.

The squad is made up of players on the A List, in addition to those who have been club-trained or association-trained, while the B list will be submitted ahead of the first game with Bayern.

Alejandro Garnacho is likely to be the biggest name on the B List, while there will also be a number of Academy players in that particular category.

Unsurprisingly, there are spots in the squad for all of the club's summer signings, including Rasmus Hojlund, who made his debut for the Red Devils in Sunday's 3-1 loss at Arsenal.

Sofyan Amrabat, Altay Bayindir, Andre Onana, Sergio Reguilon, Jonny Evans and Mason Mount will also be able to feature in the group stage of the competition.

Man United have won two and lost two of their opening four Premier League matches of the season, with a total of six points leaving them down in 11th position in the table.

The 20-time English champions will be back in league action at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on September 16 before heading to Bayern for what is a mouthwatering opener in Group A.
