Manchester City 'put Vincent Kompany contract talks on hold'

Manchester City are reportedly willing to wait until the end of Vincent Kompany's current contract before discussing an extension with the club captain.

Manchester City have reportedly put contract talks with captain Vincent Kompany on hold until the end of the season.

Kompany's current deal at the Etihad Stadium expires next summer, but City are understood to be willing to wait until the final stages of his contract before discussing terms over an extension.

Pep Guardiola is eager to keep his players' focus firmly on retaining the Premier League title, and is not worried about the prospect of Kompany leaving for another English club.

The 32-year-old recently celebrated 10 years with the club and is thought to be willing to take a significant pay cut from his £200,000-a-week wages.

City are expected to limit any offers to a rolling 12-month contract due to lingering concerns over the Belgium international's injury record.

Kompany has made 337 appearances for City across all competitions, helping the club to three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three EFL Cups.
