Leroy Sane: I’m on the right side of Manchester

By Andy Hampson, | 6d
Some reports had linked City man with United.

Leroy Sane has joked there is no chance he could join Manchester United.

Extraordinary rumours that the Manchester City winger could make an unlikely cross-town switch to Old Trafford surfaced amid speculation about his future earlier in the season.

This came as the German made a slow start to the campaign with no starts in the champions’ opening four Premier League matches.

The rumours were then reignited recently when a bookmaker cut odds on such a move happening, but Sane himself insists the suggestions are nonsense.

The 22-year-old, who is contracted at City until 2021, said: “That won’t happen! That won’t happen! That won’t happen at all. I am really happy here and I’m on the right side.”

Sane, who won the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season, has been more like his old self of late and scored in Sunday’s 6-1 thrashing of Southampton at the Etihad Stadium.

And as he prepares to face United in next weekend’s derby, Sane says he never had any concerns about his lack of starts.

He said: “I have not been worried at all. I know what they want from me and what they expect from me and I will just try to work hard.

“I always enjoy myself. To play with these players under this coach is a really good feeling and everyone can see we enjoy it all together, playing with each other. It’s fun to play with this team.”
