Jesse Lingard: 'We will relish derby pressure'

Jesse Lingard says that Manchester United "believe" that they will pick up a positive result in Sunday's Manchester derby with Manchester City.

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has insisted that his team "believe" that they will pick up a positive result in Sunday's Manchester derby with Manchester City.

United will enter Sunday's clash nine points behind their rivals in the Premier League table, and as the underdogs having watched City fire off six home wins - scoring 24 times in the process - in the top flight already this season.

Lingard, however, has said that United will relish the pressure of overcoming Pep Guardiola's team.

"I think these big games are what you play for," Lingard told MUTV. "The more pressure there is, you fire off that pressure. They're the games you want to be involved in, like everyone else.

"The most important thing is to believe, in ourselves, that we can do it. I believe in this team."

United have dropped points in five of their 11 Premier League matches this season, but have won their last three fixtures in all competitions, including a morale-boosting 2-1 success away to Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Last season, United came from two goals behind to record a 3-2 win over City at the Etihad Stadium.
