Wayne Rooney's 200th Premier League goal looked to be securing a famous three points for Everton, but Man City, who had Kyle Walker sent off late in the first period, secured a share of the spoils late on through Sterling.
Everton were also reduced to 10 men late on when Morgan Schneiderlin was given his marching orders, but the Toffees held on to avoid defeat.
