Barcelona are reportedly considering making a move for Feyenoord defender Givairo Read during this summer's transfer window.

The Catalan giants are planning to sign at least one full-back in the upcoming market, with Espanyol's Omar El Hilali and Rayo Vallecano's Andrei Ratiu both believed to be options ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

According to SPORT, Read is also viewed by Barcelona as a transfer target, with the 18-year-old identified as an ideal acquisition considering that he is unlikely to prove to be too expensive, while his ceiling is seen as extremely high.

The report claims that the Catalan team have scouted the teenager on more than one occasion this season, but there could be competition from the Premier League in the shape of Liverpool.

The Reds allegedly view Read as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who only has a contract at Anfield until the end of June and could potentially be on his way to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Barcelona 'interested in Feyenoord defender Read'

Barcelona allegedly have no concerns over the form of Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde in the full-back spots, but the Catalan giants are desperate to boost their options for the 2025-26 campaign.

Read has been with Feyenoord since 2023, making 25 appearances for the club, scoring once and providing seven assists, while he has played on three occasions in the Champions League.

The youngster is a right-back, but Barcelona allegedly believe that he would be more than capable featuring down the left and could therefore provide cover in that position if required.

Feyenoord are in a strong position when it comes to Read's future, with the teenager contracted to the club until June 2028, meaning that their negotiating power is substantial, especially considering the growing interest in his services.

Will Fort, Martin stay at Barcelona?

Hector Fort, 18, and Gerard Martin, 23, are currently the back-up full-backs at Barcelona.

The former, who is in the final 18 months of his contract, has made 14 appearances for Barcelona this season, while the latter has featured on 26 occasions for the first team during the 2024-25 campaign.

Read is certainly more of a right-back, so his arrival could lead to Fort's departure, with the teenager believed to be on the radar of a number of other teams in the top flight of Spanish football. body check tags ::
