Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their shock home Champions League defeat to Atalanta BC when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

The Reds missed the chance to secure their place in the last 16 with two games to spare, suffering their first home defeat inside 90 minutes since September 2017.

However, as far as the Premier League is concerned the champions are flying high and would move out on their own at the top of the table with another victory this weekend.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could set his side up for the contest.

Liverpool are still missing a host of players for this match, with midfield and defence looking particularly light for Klopp.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk all remain sidelined for Klopp's men to limit options at the back, where Fabinho is expected to come back in alongside Joel Matip at the heart of the defence.

Rhys Williams did return in midweek but is more likely to be saved for Champions League outings, while Nat Phillips will provide the main back-up in the league.

Neco Williams could retain his place at right-back from midweek, though, with James Milner likely to be needed in midfield following Naby Keita's injury against Leicester last weekend.

Andrew Robertson was rested on Wednesday but should come back into the side for this one, while Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to keep his place in midfield.

Question marks remain over the fitness of Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson, both of whom are not far away from a return but could find the quick turnaround between fixtures too much to contend with as they battle back from injuries.

Henderson did at least return to full training on Thursday and so should be involved in some capacity, although that may not be from the start.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also expected to miss out, and the lack of midfield options - coupled with the form of Diogo Jota - could see Klopp name a front four once again, with Curtis Jones the unfortunate player to drop out.

Roberto Firmino and Jota were both rested from the start in midweek, and the latter's omission was a clear sign that he is now regarded as a particularly important member of Klopp's first-team plans.

Jota scored twice on his last visit to Brighton but is still searching for his first Liverpool league goal away from home, having scored all four at Anfield so far.

Mohamed Salah made a swift return to action on Wednesday and is expected to start again here, having directly contributed to eight goals in his six Premier League appearances against the Seagulls.
