Jurgen Klopp brushes off latest "exceptional" Liverpool record

:Headline: Jurgen Klopp brushes off latest 'exceptional' Liverpool record:
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists that his side are still looking to create a basis for the rest of the season despite making a record-breaking start to the campaign.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he "didn't feel anything" when he learned of his side's latest record-breaking achievement following the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur this evening.

The result saw Liverpool make it 61 points from their opening 21 games of the season, which is more than any other team from Europe's top five leagues has ever managed at this stage of a campaign.

Klopp recognised that such a feat was "exceptional" but insists that his side are still focused on creating a platform for the rest of the campaign as they go in search of a first league title for 30 years.

"I tried to respond in an appropriate way, but when someone told me I didn't feel anything. I've been in football 50 years and if someone would have told me it would ever happen I'd probably say it's not possible, and now it happened it doesn't feel. I don't know exactly what is wrong with me!" Klopp told reporters at his post-match press conference.

"It's really cool and it's exceptional. I know if it was easy to have that winning streak then many more teams would have done it so it is obviously exceptional, but we didn't think a second before and after the game someone had to remind me about it. It's obviously exceptional, but if it stays like that I can think about it in five years maybe.

"At the moment what we try to do is still to create a basis for the rest of the season, and the rest of the season is still quite long. We have a lot of tough games to play - the next one is especially tough - and we have to make sure that we are ready for that.

"Today was difficult, and we made it a bit too difficult for ourselves because we didn't finish it off, but not to forget or underestimate the quality of the other team. It is normal that they come back into the game like this, and I'm really happy."

Liverpool's lead at the top of the table now stands at 16 points ahead of next weekend's showdown with bitter rivals Manchester United, who are the only team to take Premier League points off them this season. body check tags ::
