Joel Matip: 'Liverpool working hard to avoid further injuries'

Liverpool defender Joel Matip says that the Reds are "working on different things" to avoid any more players entering a treatment room which is filling up fast.

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has affirmed that the Premier League champions are trying out different things as they aim to prevent more players from joining their ever-growing injury list.

The Reds currently have more players sidelined than any other team in the Premier League, with Naby Keita the latest to occupy a spot in the treatment room alongside the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson.

Matip - who has struggled with injury problems of his own recently - has now revealed that Liverpool's players are working closely with the fitness and medical teams and switching up their approach in an attempt to avoid any more long-term layoffs.

Speaking to the official Liverpool website, Matip said: "The fitness or medical department always try to tell you to improve things.

"We are working on different things. Sometimes you don't have that much influence on it, but we are working hard to keep every player as fit as possible.

"This includes me and I hope, and I'm looking forward, to be playing as much as possible and to stay fit."

An injury-hit Liverpool will return to action on Wednesday when Atalanta pay a visit to Anfield in the Champions League, and Jurgen Klopp is boosted by the return of Mohamed Salah for that game, with the Egypt international now confirmed to be COVID-negative. body check tags ::
