Result: Crystal Palace, Everton share spoils in four-goal thriller

Everton twice come from behind to rescue a 2-2 draw away to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Everton have twice come from behind to earn a share of the spoils during an entertaining a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League clash at Selhurst Park.

A contentious Leighton Baines penalty and an Oumar Niasse strike cancelled out goals from James McArthur and Wilfried Zaha in the first half as two sides in dire need of three points were made to settle for one apiece.

The Blues found themselves trailing with just one minute on the clock as McArthur linked up well with Ruben Loftus-Cheek to fire the hosts in front from inside the box.

Everton were awarded a soft penalty five minutes later when Scott Dann went in late on Niasse, with replays showing that the challenge occurred outside of the box.

Baines stepped up and fired home from 12 yards to level the match with his 20th Premier League penalty, moving him just two behind manager David Unsworth's record for a defender in the history of the competition.

These two teams possessed the division's worst defensive records ahead of kickoff, so it was no surprise when the goals continued to fly in at Selhurst Park.

Palace restored their lead in the 35th minute thanks to Zaha's close-range strike, but weak defending from Dann led to Everton's equaliser on the stroke of half time.

Idrissa Gueye dispossessed the defender and picked out Gylfi Sigurdsson with a swift pass, allowing the Iceland international to slide a through-ball to Niasse, who guided it into the back of the net from close range.

The Eagles dominated the second period, but like Everton, struggled to make any of their subsequent chances count, coming closest with eight minutes remaining when Christian Benteke skewed an effort wide from close range.

The draw was not enough to move Palace off the foot of the Premier League table, while a point for Everton leaves them three points away from the dropzone.
