Ronald Koeman: 'Wayne Rooney will play for Everton against Tottenham Hotspur'

Ronald Koeman confirms that Wayne Rooney will play for Everton this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, despite being due to appear in court on a drink-driving charge.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will play for Everton this weekend in their Premier League home fixture with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 31-year-old forward is due to appear in court later this month after being charged with a drink-driving offence.

Rooney was reportedly pulled over by police last week as he was driving a person home, prompting a number of newspapers to subsequently make allegations about the player's private life.

Speaking at a press conference, Koeman told reporters: "I'm very disappointed by the situation. We have spoken last Tuesday. Any disciplinary matter will be dealt with by the club at the appropriate time. He will play this Saturday."

Former England international Rooney rejoined Everton, his boyhood club, this summer after 13 years at Manchester United.
