Sports Mole previews Sunday's Bundesliga clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Two of Thursday night's European competitors meet at Deutsche Bank Park in the Bundesliga on Sunday, when Eintracht Frankfurt host Freiburg.

Both clubs won on the continent but enter the weekend in ninth and 10th, level on points in mid-table.

Match preview

Despite both being on six points, this is a matchup that pairs the league's best defence against one of the worst.

Frankfurt's Bundesliga games have hardly been easy on the eye so far, as no team has witnessed fewer goals in their matches across the division so far.

There have been just seven goals in their four games, as a 1-0 win over Darmstadt on the opening day has been followed by three consecutive 1-1 draws against Mainz, Koln and Bochum.

Those four sides all currently occupy positions in the bottom six at this early stage, so it is safe to say new manager Dino Toppmoller would have liked one or two more wins.

The man who replaced the legendary Oliver Glasner is still unbeaten in the Eintracht dugout though - one of just four teams yet to be beaten in the Bundesliga after four games.

They also drew 1-1 with Levski Sofia in Europe, but Eintracht continued their unbeaten start with a win over Aberdeen in their Europa Conference League group opener on Thursday.

Despite being huge favourites though, Frankfurt only narrowly edged out the Dons with a 2-1 here at Deutsche Bank Park.

It does mean Frankfurt are now 11 unbeaten at home though, winning six and drawing five.

Before returning to European action in Thessaloniki in two weeks' time to face PAOK, Frankfurt face two tricky league encounters against Freiburg and Wolfsburg, who will be awkward customers.

Freiburg will hope that a dramatic win in Piraeus on Thursday will bring back confidence, as they beat Olympiacos 3-2 on the road.

Christian Streich's men had lost 5-0 and 4-2 to Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, respectively, either side of the international break.

However, after being pegged back twice, Maximilian Philipp's 86th-minute strike won it for Freiburg in Greece.

After winning their first two games, it was imperative that Freiburg stopped the rut they were in, but they now have trips to Frankfurt and Bayern Munich before the October break.

Team News

Sebastian Rode came into the Frankfurt side for the Aberdeen game in midweek but was replaced after just 38 minutes with a knock.

Fellow midfielder Kristijan Jakic is also absent with a knee injury, along with Mehdi Loune, who is out long term.

A red card last weekend means Freiburg will be without Nicolas Hofler, but they will be able to welcome back Manuel Gulde, who served a continental suspension against Olympiacos.

Gulde's absence forced Streich into his only change in midweek, as Kenneth Schmidt deputised at left-back in a slight tweak to Freiburg's usual shape.

Streich has numerous injury issues to contend with though, as Christian Gunter is still recovering from a broken arm, while Michael Gregoritsch went off early against Dortmund with a calf problem.

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Benjamin Uphoff and Max Rosenfelder are also all currently absent for Freiburg.

Eintracht Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Trapp; Tuta, Koch, Pacho; Aurelio Buta, Larsson, Shkiri, Nkounkou; Ebimbe, Marmoush, P Aaronson

Freiburg possible starting lineup:
Atubolu; Sildillia, Ginter, Lienhart, Kubler; Rohl, Eggestein, Doan, Sallai, Grifo; Holer

We say: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Freiburg

Frankfurt have been draw specialists so far this season, recording four 1-1 draws already in all competitions, and even though Freiburg are yet to draw this season, a close encounter is in store.

Despite low-scoring starts for the two sides, both teams have scored in the last seven meetings here in Frankfurt - resulting in 25 goals.
