Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would supposedly be open to taking charge of the Blues for a third time if Graham Potter leaves in the near future.

The now-Roma coach first took charge of the Blues between 2004 and 2007 after leading Porto to the Champions League crown, and he won back-to-back Premier League titles with the West London club in 2005 and 2006 during a stellar opening period in English football.

Mourinho also won the FA Cup and two EFL Cups at Stamford Bridge before departing at the start of the 2007-08 season, but he was brought back to the club in 2013 after spells in charge of Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

During his second spell at Chelsea, the Portuguese won another Premier League title and EFL Cup in the 2014-15 campaign, before once again packing his bags in December 2015.

Mourinho has since enjoyed stints at Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and now Roma - whom he led to Europa Conference League glory last season - and he is under contract until the end of next season.

With the 60-year-old's long-term future under some uncertainty, the Daily Mail claims that he would jump at the chance to take charge of Chelsea again if the club part ways with Potter.

The report states that Mourinho has recently become frustrated at a lack of financial support from the powers-that-be at Roma, and that he would favour a move back to West London.

Chelsea have supposedly been informed of the Portuguese's stance by his representatives, with his wife and children still living in London nearly two years on from his Tottenham sacking in April 2021.

However, the Blues have supposedly let it be known that Potter's job is not under any threat for the time being, so a dream return to Chelsea is unlikely to materialise anytime soon.

Furthermore, Mourinho reportedly has no plans to leave Roma midway through the campaign, even with the West Ham United job potentially becoming available if David Moyes is given the boot soon.

Having replaced Thomas Tuchel in September, Potter got off to a dream start as Chelsea manager, going unbeaten in his first nine games in charge across all competitions.

The 47-year-old also sealed Chelsea's progress to the Champions League knockout stages as group winners, but the Blues' fortunes have taken a nosedive in recent months.

Potter has only led Chelsea to three wins from their last 12 games in all competitions, leaving the Blues smack-bang in the middle of the Premier League table in 10th place.

The West London giants are 10 points off the top four and 21 worse off than leaders Arsenal, but Potter is under contract until 2027 and is in no immediate danger of being let go.

Chelsea drew 0-0 with Liverpool in their most recent game and are next in action at home to West London rivals Fulham - whom they lost 2-1 to earlier this month - on February 3. body check tags ::
