Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch has revealed that he has "sent an email" to Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Bruno Lage "to clear the air" following their altercation on the touchline on the opening weekend of the new season.

The Whites kicked off the new campaign with a 2-1 win over Wolves at Elland Road, with a strike from Rodrigo and an own goal from Rayan Ait-Nouri turning the match on its head after Daniel Podence had put the visitors in front.

After the full-time whistle, both Marsch and Lage were involved in a heated exchange on the touchline, with the latter stating that he was not impressed with something he heard from the home team's bench.

"Nothing against the manager, they won, but there was a point in the first half I heard something I didn't like," Lage told reporters after the game on August 6.

"There are some things in my opinion that you cannot say. Most important thing is Leeds win, and congratulations to the manager and the team and the fans."

Marsch has since affirmed that he respects Lage like every over manager in the Premier League and is hoping to hear a response from the Portuguese boss after sending him an email this week.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday's fixture against Chelsea, Marsch said: "I sent an email to Bruno to clear the air. [I have] a lot of respect for Bruno and all the managers in this league. [You] don't get here without a great career.

"Challenge we all want to win. That's my thing. Stay calm and stay in the match so we help our team, but the competitive edge you want your team to present every match is a big part of what helps you be successful."

When asked whether Lage has replied to his email, Marsch added: "Not yet, but I sent it recently and he's busy."

Leeds have since played out a 2-2 draw away at Southampton and they now sit sixth in the Premier League table on four points, level with Sunday's opponents Chelsea.

Marsch has confirmed that striker Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper are both doubtful for this weekend's fixture due to respective groin and Achilles injuries.

Bamford was forced off in the first half of their draw at St Mary's, while Cooper is yet to play this season after sustaining his injury earlier this summer.

Leeds will be without Luke Ayling and Junior Firpo who continue to recover from knee injuries, while Stuart Dallas is a long-term absentee after breaking his leg at the back-end of last season.

Teenage forward Joe Gelhardt is available for selection, though, after recovering from a minor injury which kept him out of last weekend's draw with Southampton. body check tags ::
