Chelsea have reportedly held talks with Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim over the manager's position at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are currently searching for a permanent successor for Graham Potter, who was relieved of his duties earlier this month.

Chelsea decided to reappoint club legend Frank Lampard as interim manager until the end of the season, giving them valuable time to undertake a detailed search for a new head coach.

Julian Nagelsmann, who was recently sacked by Bayern Munich, has been linked with the job, and he has been invited to present his ideas to the club's board.

Nagelsmann is interested in taking a role in the Premier League, but he is also wanted by Chelsea's London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Spain coach Luis Enrique is another contender for the Chelsea job, having travelled to London to hold talks over the manager's position.

As Chelsea continue to look at all potential options, according to The Guardian they have held talks with Amorim about their managerial vacancy.

The 38-year-old has carved out a reputation as one of Europe's brightest young coaches, having enjoyed success in his homeland of Portugal.

Amorim won the Portuguese League Cup with Braga in the 2019-20 season before being appointed Sporting Lisbon boss three years ago.

Since becoming taking over at the Portuguese giants, he has won a league title, two League Cups and a domestic Super Cup.

Although his side currently sit in fourth place in the Primeira table, he has guided them to the Europa League quarter-finals where they were beaten 1-0 by Juventus in Thursday's first leg.

Amorim has a contract with Sporting Lisbon until June 2026, which includes a significant buyout clause.

There is currently no indication as to whether Amorim is a leading candidate for the Chelsea job with a whole host of names consistently linked with the role.

Former River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo is believed to be on the shortlist, as well as ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues are also monitoring Oliver Glasner and Xabi Alonso, who are currently managing Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen respectively. body check tags ::
