Marcos Alonso: 'Alvaro Morata is ready'

Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso says that Alvaro Morata is "ready" to feature in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso has declared that Alvaro Morata is "ready" to return for the club against Roma in the Champions League tomorrow night.

The Spaniard has been on the sidelines since the end of last month after picking up a hamstring injury during the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City and missed the shock 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace over the weekend.

Morata is thought to have returned to training this week, however, and according to Alonso, he is fit enough to feature against the Serie A side.

"He's ready," Alonso told reporters this afternoon. "He's been training very well, but I don't know if he's going to make it in the starting XI tomorrow.

"But he's been a very important player for us this season, so I'm sure if he plays tomorrow he will be as good as at the start of the season."

Asked how the mood was in the Blues camp following the defeat to the Eagles, he replied: "I've seen the team working very well in these last couple of days, they've recovered well and we hopefully will have a much better game tomorrow.

"The team is looking forward to this game. It's a good opportunity for us to change things after the last game. Motivation is high for tomorrow and we will try to get three points."

Chelsea currently sit top of Group C, having taken maximum points from the first two matchdays.
