UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin warns that there is a "small possibility" of Chelsea's Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid being cancelled.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has admitted that there is a "small possibility" that Chelsea's Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid may not go ahead after the European Super League fiasco.

The two clubs were among the 12 founder members of the widely condemned breakaway tournament, but by Tuesday night, the Big Six Premier League sides had withdrawn from the initiative after backlash from all corners of the game.

Ceferin had previously vowed to kick the European-competing members of the 'Dirty Dozen' out of the semi-finals, and he has now warned that the Champions League semis are not 100% guaranteed to go ahead next week.

Speaking to Slovenian TV channel 24UR, the UEFA president said: "The key is that this season has already started, so broadcasters would come at us for damages if we don't play the semi-finals.

"So, there's a relatively small possibility that this match isn't played next week. But, things could be a little different in the future."

Manchester City are due to take on Paris Saint-Germain - who were not involved in ESL plans - in the other semi-final, while Arsenal and Manchester United are still vying for Europa League glory. body check tags ::
